On Mondays and Tuesdays Eldfjallasafn Volcano Museum offers geology excurions around the Snæfellsnes peninsula The trip will focus on the geology and the volcanoes of the peninsula, under the guidance of one of the experts in this field.
Kerlingarfjall, Snæfellsjökull, Búlandshöfði, Berserkjahraun and others. We will make short hikes at these sites. The Snæfellsnes peninsula is the arena where the Icelandic sagas of Eyrbyggja and Bárðar saga Snæfellsáss take place, and they will be addressed during the excursion. The tour includes:

Snæfellsnes offers an incredible variety in geology, and it can be said that the peninsula is really a pocket book version of all the geology of Iceland, as well as having a great natural beauty of landscape. The guided tour will circle the entire peninsula, and it is eight hours in duration. Stops are made at the major points of geologic interest, and Haraldur Sigurdsson volcanologist will provide detailed guidance. The tour is not just an excursion but will also provide a comprehensive picture of geology and geomorphology of the region. The major factors in the geology of Iceland are addressed, including the Tertiary basalt formation, glacial formations, fossil-bearing sediments from the last ice age, the formation of hyaloclastite during subglacial eruptions, modern lava flows and other volcanic rocks. The participants will also get a chance to examine rocks such as gabbro and granophyre. The excursion, as well as a lecture at the Eldfjallsafn Volcano Museum, will provide a mini-course in the geology of Iceland. Important localities in the geology of Iceland will be visited, including Drápuhlíðarfjall, Kerlingarfjall, snæfellsjökull, búlandshöfði, Berserkjahraun and others. We will make short hikes at these sites.
